Chinatown in Mexico City, also called Barrio Chino, is a small but vibrant neighborhood near the historic center.

It features colorful gates, lanterns, and a cluster of restaurants, bakeries, and shops offering Chinese cuisine, cultural goods, souvenirs, and festive decorations.

It’s lively during Chinese New Year and provides a unique cultural pocket amid the city’s bustling streets.

Barrio Chino Photography Notes

Barrio Chino in Mexico City is compact but full of visual charm.

The colorful entrance gates, hanging lanterns, and decorated shopfronts make for striking compositions, especially with street life in the frame. Late afternoon light softens the colors, while evening brings a warm glow from the lanterns—perfect for moody, atmospheric shots.

SAFETY TIPS

Stay aware of your surroundings and keep gear close—Chinatown streets can get crowded. Be cautious when framing shots near traffic.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Any time of the day.
