I stumbled upon the Palacio Postal de México while walking through the historic center and got lucky — the next time I came by, visitation was closed to the public. Plan ahead for opening times.
The building is gorgeous, with a stunning stained-glass ceiling and intricate details everywhere you look.
The lavish gold accents throughout
reflect its importance as Mexico City’s main post office and the pride of the nation when it was built.
They do free tours, which you can book online, and it’s an easy way to see inside and appreciate all the craftsmanship without feeling overwhelmed.
This post office is still functional!
The place has a lot of character and is one of those spots that surprises you, right in the middle of the busy city streets.

The best time to visit is mid-morning to noon, when sunlight streams through the stained-glass ceiling and highlights the gold accents throughout the interior.
Inside, you can capture wide shots of the main hall, detailed close-ups of the ornate ironwork, and the dramatic contrast between shadows and light.
