More than 2.5 times larger than Central Park, right in the heart of one of the world’s biggest cities.
Bosque de Chapultepec is often described as the lungs of Mexico City, and once you step inside, it immediately feels different from the surrounding chaos.
Covering more than 1,600 acres, the park is a massive mix of forests, lakes, museums, monuments, street vendors, families, runners, and artists—all existing side by side.
It’s not just a forest you pass through. It’s a place people live in for the day.
Whether you’re boating on Lago de Chapultepec, visiting one of the many museums, or standing below Chapultepec Castle overlooking the city, you will feel like you will never cover all of it.
Calm, historic, and modern all at once. The amount of things you can visit in the forest is countless.
Bosque de Chapultepec Photography Notes
Chapultepec offers an incredible range of scenes depending on where you are. Wide shots work beautifully here—long paths framed by trees, reflections on the lake, silhouettes of people against open sky, or the city sprawling beneath the castle.
Street photography thrives as well, especially on weekends when locals fill the park with motion and energy. Because the forest is so large, don’t rush it. Walk, observe, and let scenes present themselves. Some of the best moments happen between destinations. Renting an ecobici in the forest is my favourite way to get around.

Lago de Chapultepec
Calm reflections, paddle boats, and tree-lined shores. Early morning is ideal.
Paseo de la Reforma Entrance
Urban-meets-nature shots with monuments, crowds, and wide paths. Great for weekend energy.
Tree-lined Interior Paths
Shaded avenues, perfect for candid shots of joggers, families, and sunlight through trees.
Ecobici Rental Bike Ride
Rent a bike and explore the park’s trails for dynamic, motion-filled photography or just to cover more ground quickly.
Museo Tamayo and Museo de Arte Moderno
Outdoor sculpture gardens and architectural lines make for interesting compositions.
Monumento a los Niños Héroes
Historic monument with wide lawns—good for symmetry and dramatic wide-angle shots.
Carrusel de Chapultepec
Classic colorful carousel near the southern lake—great for fun, lively photos and motion shots. House of mirrors and other attractions nearby.
Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Garden at Chapultepec Park is said to be the first botanical garden in Mexico, made with exotic plants brought in from other parts of the country.
SAFETY TIPS
Chapultepec is generally safe, but some areas can get crowded, especially near lakes, monuments, and amusement spots.
SCENE DESCRIPTION
It’s a vast, green urban park with a mix of wide open lawns, tree-lined paths, and lakes. Visitors are everywhere—joggers, families, street performers, cyclists, and tourists exploring the monuments. The park feels alive all day, but it’s never overwhelming.
BEST TIME/SEASON TO VISIT
Early morning for calm light, late afternoon for golden hour. Weekends are lively; weekdays are quieter. Spring and fall are most lush.
Keep in mind Section 1 (the most popular one) closes off their entrance at 6pm.
